Lay Visitation

The lay visitation team exists to support those in our congregation during hospital stays and illnesses. The visitation team makes sure that someone is at the hospital to sit with the family of a member who is undergoing in-patient surgery. The team also sends get well and sympathy cards to all members hospitalized or those who have experienced a death in the family. They visit funeral homes for deaths of members and the immediate families of members.

The lay visitation team also spends time with the many members who are residents at Swiss Village Retirement Community. They organize and facilitate a communion service on the Swiss Village campus on the same day First Mennonite conducts a communion service. During the month of March, Pastor Jerry Flueckiger also organizes a pie day at Swiss Village that has been well received. The staff at First Mennonite and their families serve the members of our church who are also residents at Swiss Village. The lay visitation team is a vital link between First Mennonite and the members of our congregation who reside at Swiss Village.

The lay visitation team has at least one person or couple visiting the hospitals six days a week. This creates an atmosphere of care within the church and has been a great encouragement to many members at First Mennonite.
